how to attach n-scale figures

So we’re finally wrapping up our first (n-scale) layout… we’re down to a few scenic clean-ups and detailing. What’s the best way to attach n-scale figures to the layout? Figures like those from WS don’t have a base, so the surface area for adhesive is incredibly small. We’ve tried the WS “Scenic Accents Glue”, but it doesn’t seem to stick all that well. Other suggestions? Thanks

On my HO figures in the past I have used a pinvice to drill a small hole in the figures foot(and up thier ankle) and then inserted some wire with approc 1/4 inch protruding and then “stuck” the figure into the base… but I would guess the N scale folks are too small for this operation,

do you plan to move them around? If not I would use a CA and just fix them where you want them, temporarily propped in position till the glue drys…

although personally I would use elmers wood glue and prop them up tilll the glue dried… then when they got “itchy feet” I could break th bond (not the figue) and move them somewhere else

That’s exactly what I was going to suggest.

Thanks for the posts. We may try elmer’s one more time, but the CA is probably the way we will go. Just gotta remember not to rub one’s eye in the middle of gluing

I just tried Woodland Scenics figure-sticking glue for the first time as few days agao and was pleased with the results. I was setting up for picture taking… I put the Woodland Scenics glue on the figures’ feet, then went on about setting up photo arrangement. Five minutes later, I went back to figures, picked up one with hemostat (surgical tool) and placed on model. One of the two figures I placed did not stand up well on first try, and I re-gooped it. Again waited setting in place. The Woodland Scenics stuff has hardly any “sticky” at all when it is wet and white. Needs to dry to turn clear. Then makes a good light bond.

I used it for the exterior of the structure.

The figures on the inside were stuck in place with Walthers/Hobsco GOO(R). My roof is glued on, I want the figures to STAY, and they can’t be seen too well so a little excess GOO(R) is not as objectionable as it would be on a figure more conspicuous.

On some other projects, I have used Elmer’s Glue-All which makes a so-so bond. Can usually be pulled up when I want to move a figure without destroying the figure. If a figure has a “base”, I cut it off and glue just to “feet”. Sometimes I have to find some way to hold figure in standing-up position while glue dries.
