It has stopped working on my spectrum steamer. Its the type you put a few drops of smoke oil in are they easy to change?
Is this the one you’re thinking of? Other than the usual fun of getting inside a steamer they’re not too tough. You need a soldering iron of course.
it’s been a few years since I played with a Bachmann smoke unit, but if a chubby fingered monkey like me can do it, you surely can as well.

Which loco? The diagram posted did not open.
I see some different smoke units at the Bachmann site and the loco diagrams.
Also, a question at the Bachmann forums might produce an suggestion. There are forums for different scales.

Gah! Sorry about the busted link; it was just to a generic Bachmann smoke unit.
I did it on an 80’s era consolidation about a decade ago. I recall being frustrated at getting the boiler off, but otherwise it went fine.

Again, just go to the Bachmann site and search the parts page for smoke units. I just did.
Assuming HO scale right now.
Check the diagrams page for the screws location and even search the forum for your scale such as remove loco boiler.
Google bachmann forums. The site will show in the first link.
