Lionel postwar cars and assories that were painted with oil based paint that mold like to live in.
If you clean the paint with a bleach solution, the mold will return.
Do you know how to eliminate mold from painted Lionel items?
Thanks Much

The best way to kill mold in most applications is to use regular household ammonia, it always works. However, I don’t know how it’s going to affect a Lionel painted surface. Go slow and experiment, preferably in a small area of the object you’re trying to clean.
Good luck!
From what pieces are you trying to remove mold?
Some Lionel Postwar pieces have problems with mold release compound that is embedded in the plastic making its way to the surface. The mold release compound looks like a greyish white mold.
The mold release compound will melt away with the application of heat from a hair dryer.
I have had good luck with 75% white vinegar and 25% water and a tooth brush. You might also try soaking it in the sink with water and dish detergent. Be careful because that can take off paint if scrubbed too hard. Roger
