How to figure what size photos to post?

I’ve noticed that this website often, if not always (haven’t noticed), resizes the pictures a person posts within their thread, for instance in the Weekend Photo Fun threads. If I post a picture that is, for example, 155 K it is resized to around 80 to 85k. I understand that this saves bandwith for the site but it plays havoc with the sharpness of the image. To comply with the websites parameters I’d like to make my photos the correct size so this doesn’t happen. One way, I suppose, is by trial and error… create a post with 4 or 5 images all of different sizes such as 50k, 80k, 100k, 150k and see how the site handles them.

Any ideas?

Resize the width of your photos to 750-800 pixels, that way they will fit on most people’s screens. My Paint Shop Pro program allows me to resize the size of the actual file too, and I usually reduce them to around 80kb. Anything much larger is mostly a waste of everyone’s time and uploading time.

Ok, thanks Bob… I’ll try that.

If you don’t have or can’t afford Paint Shop, there is a free graphics program called GIMP which allows you to do much of the same things as Paint Shop, including resizing photo files.

Just google GIMP.
