How to identify who made a brass engine ? Help !

Hi all,

I picked up a cheap brass SP GS-3 without a tender or the weight a couple of weeks ago, but it has no builders name on it. It’s unpainted, has backhead detail, mech is made in Korea and it’s factory fitted with a Sagami can motor , has sprung drivers and from memory the gear tower is marked with Rich Gold ( ? ).

No other makers marks that I can see, and before anyone says post a pic, I’ve got issues with my camera at the moment and it’s not possible.

Anyone got any ideas ?

Look under the Pacific Fast Mail, Tenshodo, Katsumki, International Models, Gem, Balboa, Westside, and Misc. Catalogs links it might be listed.

Since it has no builders name on it I would suspect it is a Sunset. The only importers in my Brown Book were WMC, Key and Sunset. In the 1980’s Sunset stopped identifying the builder on their models so the only way you would know if you had the box. This was when they introduced their Prestige Line that were $200 - $300 cheaper than the Keys, WMC, W&R etc.

Sunset imported 200 GS3’s in 1989.
