How to keep wheels on 671/681 Lionel Turbines?

Im having trouble keeping wheels on my 681 turbine. One chassis was totally rebuilt with new wheels,axles and bushings. After just a few hours two of the wheels came off. I bought another chassis that had one bad wheel and had that fixed and installed it. 3 hours later that wheel fell off again. I have too much money tied up in it already but I hate to junk it out. Is there any way to keep wheels on these things?

I’ve used threadlocker [aka. locktight] on a couple of my loco’s. Haven’t had a problem yet. There are different grades of it, light to medium should do you fine. Im sure someone else will just in.

I use" Purple Loc-Tite" low strength and never had a problem. You can still remove the wheel or what ever if the need ever arise.
