How to make an antique brass finish?

Hi all,

I am currently working on a hotel for my layout and want to give the doors and antique brass finish. I haven’t been able to find an antique brass paint at te hobby shop. I’ve found brass, but not antique brass. Does anyone know of anyone who makes and antique brass model paint? Or, is there a good way to simulate that finish with ixing paints or some other way?

Thanks,

Jim

Model Master had a paint color called “brass non-buffing metalizer”. they actually have a whole line of metallic colors. You have to use an airbrush though to get the right look.

Have you tried craft stores like Michaels? They have all kinds of specialty paints for similar effects. Even a rust treatment - paint on the first coat that has embedded metal particles, then apply the second that actually causes it to turn to real rust. Check them out.

Unless it is a very old hotel, most hotels would pride themselves on the fancy brass door - shiny brass!! One of the doorman’s duties was to polish the door on a very regular basis!! My [2c]

Yeah, this is the stuff!

They have all kinds of metals and they look great but you must airbrush it on.

You can find it just about anywhere, hobby store-wise.
