I use a similar technique with 1 ft square pieces of burlap dipped into one-coat stucco mix. You can use anything for an underframe to help the chicken wire take shape. After the first coating of stucco-soaked burlap sets up, it is dampened down and we use a large sized plaster stiff brush to slather on more stucco. To avoid paint “stripes” just stipple it as you go. After this coat dries, paint over it with exterior latex house paint in a base color: grey or brown. Then grab some of those old spray cans of paint and randomly spray lightly overlapping colors. The last part is to roughly slosh on some diluted black paint to run down into all the crevices and under outcroppings. For even more fun, use some concrete “glue” and add sprinkles of ground foam for various highlights. You can even plant twigs and artificial trees. The result is a thin ‘hardshell’ that weathers well and is lightweight.
Well done video, thanks.
That seems to work really well. Thank you Very much for sharing Mike. Use to plaster for HO back many decades ago. Didn’t think that would work so well outside. Be well.
What was the name of the material you used to soak in concrete and then layer over the chicken wire? Where did you get it?
