I have been railroading for about 5 years but a move forced me to leave my layout. Now i am starting over and need about 100 douglas fir trees. I have time to make them–just want them to look like firs. I model in ho scale.
thanks, jeremy

wood dowels, caspia, spray paint, green ground foam, some craft paints…they come out nice. I think if you google search ‘caspia trees’ you would get some results. or, of course furnace filter trees.
Furnace filter trees is what you are looking for. Do a search here and on youtube. Here is an older post, but still worthy http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/p/26674/357925.aspx#357925
With a little practice you can have them come out like this http://www.canyoncreekscenics.com/frm_trees.htm

I use Aggros method to make trees. However I like a tapered trunk, so I take dowels and either put them in the drill press or sit out on the bench in the front yard and use a hand held drill and grind away with coarse sand paper. It doesn’t take long. Make sure you wear a leather glove and good eye protection. With a little practice I was also able to get a floppy top like a Hemlock.
