I need pheasents for a hunting scene and there seems to be none on the market, pigens, chickens, geese, but no pheasents. Any one have suggestions as to how to model these and what materials would be practical?
Bend and solder wire or paperclips to general shape. Cover with modeling clay. Take away clay that is not part of the pheasant. Paint.
Or… I am going to try to do seagulls with tinfoil.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
Karl.
I’d take a white metal seagull at rest, reshape the beak with a file, and flatten and lengthen the tail with a smooth-jawed pair of pliers.
Art im not sure what your looking for .but i found this .maybe it can help?

That link is for a set of Woodland Scenics “Rabbit Hunt.” It retails for $10.98, and DiscountTrainsOnline has it for 8.56. No pheasants, but good hunting figures. One of these days, I’m going to put a moonshine still out behind a shack with a couple of them standing guard.
Cut up different colored pheasant feathers into straight strands, and glue them onto a chicken or goose., shaping that long tail. Paint the head and neck. If you can’t get your hand on a***bird, I think they sell thier feathers in a bait store with fly tying materials.
If I did it, it would look ridiculus. I’m sure you have a better artist’s touch than I do.
If you can, show us what you end up doing.
Jim
Oh,oh … automatic big brother didn’t like that word. Change that to “male pheasant.”
Thanks for the help so far. Rabbit hunt is a good scene but none of those hunters would ever hit a target in the air. Sea gull dea has interest, where do I find sea gulls I wonder. Some searching is in order
I think there are HO pigeons available, I used them once to kitbash N scale chickens and you mentioned them. Perhaps you could kitbash HO pigeons into pheasants, for live birds. For “taken” birds drooped over something, I am not so sure…
Go into a store that offers fly-tying material, pick what looks like it could have come off a pheasant’s back and sides, and glue that to a hen, seagull, whatever.
how to make peasants - just send a model r/r into a hobby store for a few hours. they will trade cash for stuff…
oh, my mistake, pheasants are something completely different.
The fly tying material idea is great. I thought that Woodland Scenics makes almost every type of scale figures - even skunks. maybe check with them, might be a NEW item. “Happy Hunting”
