If you are still looking to model Spanish Moss take look through a copy of the May 1991 Model Railroader magazine you will find on page 80 and article - Model A Florida Swamp - Cypress Trees, cypress knees, Spanish mos, and Spanish needles.
This should be just the ticket for you.
