How to modify an Athearn Genesis F unit interior?

I’ll be going inside my fleet of Athearn Genesis F units soon to finish up some decoder work and figured it was also a good time to “fix” the cab interiors.

I’m guessing someone has already come up with a way to fix the interior so it fits right. As they are now the seats seem way too high and the dash boards seem too far back.

I’m not afraid of cutting, splicing, and gluing. So if there is a way to fix them please let me know.

Dear Matt,

take a look at the October 2002 issue of Model Railroader. On page 86/87 you will find the article “Improving Genesis cab interiors” by Robert Smaus.

I haven’t yet fixed my B&O F3 units, but sooner or later I will do so - shouldn’t be too difficult.

Greetings from Italy,

Michael

The October 2002 Model Railroader has an article on page 86 with two methods of modifying the Genesis interiors. One method is to extend the floor (messier, but with a more realistic outcome), and the other is to make a new floor (cleaner, but loses some of the detail).

Thanks for the info. Have to look for that issue. Doubt I kept mine [:(]

I wish there was a DVD set for Model Railroader like there is for Trains. The complete Trains Magazine collection is a great resource.
