I am building a new layout. There is one place that is 7 feet deep. It is a large mountain that goes up to the ceiling. The good news is that one front and side are on an isle space, so reaching the tracks etc are not a problem. But the one portion runs along the back wall. I have not experience with building “pop ups” access hatches. How do you do this? I am concerned about not wrecking the scenery when using the access hatches. I do not have that part of the scenery built so that is OK. I have seen some devices in the MicroMark catalog that are like bridges on wheels that extend over the layout. This seems easier to me but with a price of about $250. What is your opinion? Suggestions, experiences, other solutions.
You could just make an access hole or a lift-out section. Here’s an older pic of one of my sections with hole for access
