I recently picked up 2 walthers trainline gp15-1s decorated for conrail at a train show pretty cheap. They are great runners, but the think that really bothers me is the handrails. They seem horribly out of scale and on when of them just painted black.
I was looking to replace these wth better looking (and painted) handrails, but I have never done anything like this. I know smokey valley makes hand rails, but I’m not sure how to even install them. Could I use something like athearn handrails or do I need something specifically made for a gp15? Thanks!
The size and position of the mounting holes may not be the same on your shell. I have done projects like this where filling the hole was needed only to redrill to accept the better rails.
