How to turn sound down on P2K

Open house tonight. My P2K 2-8-8-2 is way too loud, but I have been putting off fixing it.

Now I cannot find to book that tells me how. PLEASE HELP. It is hard to be this ignorant. I am using a Digitrax program track, so I assume that what I need is a CV number and an approximate value.

Hi while I don’t have a P2K engine, I do have an Atlas with QSI sound, I beleive this is the same sound system also installed in your P2K engine.

Here how I reduced the overall sound of mine on a Digitrax Zephyr programming track.

First enter a value of 0 (zero) in CV49 then enter the system volume in CV51. The default is 127 and it can be set to any value between 0 (zero) no sound and 127 100%. I programmed a value of 80 (eighty) for my Dash-8, it is ok alone in the train room but I find it is too low if there is a crowd and lots of talking.

You can also change each individual sound volumes with CV49 and CV52 if you email me off list i could send a table on how to adjust those individual volumes. It might be a bit late for tonight as I will be away for the afternoon returning about 4pm eastearn time.

Thanks. I will give it a try.

My P2K SW-8 came with a “magic wand” of sorts. You hold it over the front of the locomotive and it will raise and lower the volume.

If you got such an animal with your locomotive, that would be the easy way out.

Cheers,

Glenn

Thanks, Jalajoie. I’ve got the manual for mine and it certainly doesn’t present the information anywhere near as clearly as you do. I set my 0-6-0 down to 63. I can still hear it fine, but I can also hear the Alco RS running at the same time. Now maybe it’s time for that S-1 to be heard?

That worked just fine. Thanks again.

To both Art and MisterBeasley thanks for the feed back and glad I could help. Art hope you will give us some feedback on the outcome of your open house. Jack W.
