Can I fit 11.25 radius curve (N scale) on a 2.5 foot wide layout? Would 12.5 radius curves fit? Looking to build an oval layout and just trying to figure out how wide I need my table to be.
One other thing, is there a way to transition from code 55 to code 80? I figure I could use the code 80 for hidden trackage.
Yes and yes to your first two questions. 2.5 feet translates into 30", and the largest radius you are looking at is 25". Granted, it will need a little more space than that because the radius is measured from the inside of the track. Even still, you will have 2.5 inches of wiggle room on either side. The question is, how close do you want the track to run to the edge of the layout. If you are fine with it being close to the edge, than by all means go with the larger radius. If not, use the tighter radius.
As far as the transition between the two codes of track, I think they (walthers) manufacter transition rail joints for connecting the two codes of track. I’m afraid I can’t help much beyond that, as I don’t know a whole lot about N scale…[:D]
