How Will a QSI Decoder With Chip/Software Upgrade Compare With Tsunami?

I couldn’t find anywhere where someone had some “Beta” experience with the upgrade.

Any thoughts about it?

I want to keep my very small fleet of engines at their best. I operate my engines while I am very close to them on my small layout, and i want the best possible sound and slow speed performance. I’m almost studying them as they operate.

I have one on order so I’m looking forward to hearing the difference between the old QSI chip and the new chip. Can’t help you on the difference between the two though.

I’d think it’d be much better. I’m really amazed with QSI’s sound, and I think it’d be really hard for any one to beat it.

Well, I have been happy with my QSI sound, but the lack of BEMF was a problem, to me. I have one Tsunami, so far, with a second about to come in a 0-6-0 that had a Sountraxx DSD100LC. The one Tsunami is dynamite, to my ear.

I would like to see QSI improve their compressor sounds in the steamer ranges. They all sound pretty much the same to me, but the ones I have heard on real steamers are different. Even with the problems associated with the small tender and speaker sizes, they could do better. Also, their Challenger whistle leaves much to be desired.

I have not checked out the Tsunami to see what its articulated loco whistle is like.
