How would you like to get caught by this train

Im going to take your word, and the descriptions words. I am not going to count that high again, only when I win the lottery I’ll want to count that high again. Once was enough…lol

This is the world record. If you click on the “more info” link on the right side of the video, youll see the description.

The longest train I hear on the detector around Neenah is around 612 (2-six axle units and 150 cars)or 618 (3-six axle units and 150 cars) or limited to 10,000 feet.

Most axles Ive heard over the scanner was in Duluth at one-zero-nine-zero (1090). That was on the DMIR. I figured 268 ore Jennies and 3 six axled units

You don’t have to take my word. Those are the numbers given in the description, which you must click on to read the entire thing:

“Australian BHP Iron ore train, the longest train to ever run in the world, this train is officially in the guinness book of world records for the longest train. The record was set on june 21, 2001 in western australia between newman and port headland, a distance of 275km (170 miles) and the train consisted of 682 loaded iron ore wagons and 8 GE AC6000 locomotives giving a gross weight of almost 100,000 tonnes and moved 82,262 tonnes of ore, the train was 7.353 km (4.568 miles) long. BHP iron ore did this to test locotrol which is where locomotives are evenly placed along the length of the train. The locotrol setup was 2 locos-166 wagons, 2 locos-168 wagons, 2 locos-168 wagons, 1 loco-180 wagons then the last locomotive on the back.”

correct me if I am wrong - which I am sure you will do - I know they used to pay by the miles and probably still do, but do they pay by the number of motors, too?

If so - it would make a good half!

Can a detector count that high!!! HA!!![(-D]

Question: What is the draft gear capacity and how often does a train break into? A small motor bike in the front unit to patrol a emergency brake application seems prudent,

well i felt pretty stupid when i sat here and counted every single car, came up with 678, THEN click the ‘more info’ and they had a number of 682 posted! there’s 8 minutes of my time i’d like to have back!!!

Some of us old-timers still get additional pay for “weight on drivers” if the total weight of powered locomotives exceeds a certain tonnage (which I do not recall at this time). However, the additional $ are at best miniscule, amounting to no more that a few extra $ per trip.

It’s too bad the DM&E cant run trains like this at 5 mph thru Rochester to give its citizens and the Mayo Clinic something to really complain about.

Get CN to run their trains all combined thru Orr Minnesota at 10mph
