Howard Lutnick was the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald and was deeply affected by the 9/11 attacks, as his company’s offices in the World Trade Center were destroyed, resulting in the deaths of 658 employees, including his brother, and Lutnick’s personal survival because he was taking his son to kindergarten. Lutnick subsequently led the firm’s recovery, establishing the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and making a promise to support the families of the victims, which involved providing over $180 million in aid and 10 years of healthcare.

Now Secretary of Commerce and seems to favor rail mergers.
