The reason why I ask this question is because I haven’t been to Berea to see Trains since November of 2009.
Its basically been the same since November 2009.
As far as traffic goes, everything’s been about the same since November 2009. It’s the motive power that’s gotten a bit more interesting…
NS trailer trains 205, 206, 22K and 23K have frequently been running with solid UP power lately. These trains go onto the Nickelplate mainline and head ultimately to Ayer, MA. Also, mixed freights 145, 309 and 310, which also traverse the NKP, have been getting some UP power lately too. ‘HP Hours’ payback?
NS Bellevue/Rockport/Bellevue local, train 364, has been running with Wheeling & Lake Erie #5391, an EMD SD40T-2 dressed in DRGW paint. This has been going on for well over a month now. The WE must have owed NS some major horsepower hours. Needless to say, it’s interesting catching the Grande (well, not really) leading NS trains through Berea.
CSX has seemingly returned quite a few of their GE AC6000CW units back to service. Units 682, 663, 627, 647, 680 and 697 have been frequenting the area lately on intermodal trains such as Q109, Q110, Q111, Q108, Q(L)161 and Q164. Considering the fact that they haven’t been out running in over a year, it’s nice to see them again, and to hear their distinct whining. Definitely beats the sound of an approaching GEVO, which has been an all too common sound lately.
