Last night’s Florida debate: Huckabee wants to build two parallel lanes to I-95 from Bangor to Miami. Build them highways! Get more of them big rigs on the road! Who needs a comprehensive transportation or an energy policy anyway?
Mike Huckabee is a politician and as such has to support what his voter base wants to hear. America is an automobile based society. Pushing for transportation investments that dont’ support Joe Voter’s devotion to his car might not be a great way to garner votes.
makes perfect sense for that debate. Half of Florida is retires from the northeast. More pork for the stupid.
Not to degenerate into a political blog, but I would not be too concerned about “Rev.” Huckabee.
Huckabee’s staff is fore going pay. He is not doing well according to the Fl. polls. Like “Rev.” Robertson before him, God seems to abandon those claiming a special relationship after Iowa.
I’m sure that with a sentiment like that he lost the railfan vote (yeah, I know–big deal!), but when people stop to think about exactly what an extra two lanes of road will do to the environment in some areas, he’ll lose the “green” vote as well. He probably just cooked his own alligator, manatee, whooping crane, or whatever.
No not really. Politicians play to a local audience so they say what is popular in a given state. they don’t use the same message nationally. As they say all politics is local. So in the cities they talk about poverty. In Iowa they talk about ethanol plants and hog prices. They will say whatever it takes to get elected and then if you are half way smart you know they do what they want and never meant it any way. Lets face reality, the country is divided just about fifty fifty so you have an even chance of being elected once you win the nomination. Pandering to the base is what they do.
Florida can have thier Highways, they just need to remember to issue hurricane evacs a day earlier so that everyone can get out on time.
Huckabee still has our vote, win or lose. Hillary aint getting that white house back.
Maybe those new lanes will be enough weight to cause flordia to sink [:P]
I-95 is already predominately 3 lanes (or more) in each direction from the Georgia line to it’s terminus at Miami. For that matter I-95 is mostly 3 lanes in each direction through the state of Georgia.
We need to hear the comments directly from the management of Norfolk Southern, Conrail, and CSX Transportation about the Corridor.

Well said. I wouldn’t worry too much about what this guy says. I would worry a lot more about what some of our other ‘future leaders’ are discussing.
