I’ve used them in H-O scale and now in N-Scale and yes, they are a tad over sized.
But can you think how they would work if they were the exact scale in H-O and even N??
The bottom line is, they work, are prototypical in operation, and are cheap!
I don’t sit a stare at them. I operate my RR and have fun. If you don’t like them, find something else to operate your switches. I’ve seen them photos in MR and other mags, but I tend to enjoy the rest of the RR for what it’s worth.

Yeah, they’re a tad big. But, as gtirr says, if they were any smaller they would
be difficult to operate. I only use them when a turnout is within arms reach (of course).
I also use Peco turnouts with the over-center spring and I have made my own
over-center springs with music wire. So, there are many options… ground
throws are only one of them. Good luck, Dave
If they were true to scale you wouldn’t be able to get ahold of them to change the turnout, especially not in N scale.
