These Hulett unloaders have been popping up around the internet lately, they are definitely some of the most interesting machines, Just who models them? I’ve tried hunting them down and I’m sure I saw an article in a magazine of them on a layout, any information? They would be an awsome project to scratchbuild if someone had 4 years to make one.
Tatans: I don’t think anyone makes or has ever made a model of the Hulett. There are plans available and the owner of Sylvan models had mentioned that he might do a kit. You are right they are awsome. I have a video from the Great Lakes Historial Society of them at work. The title is " Those Humongus Huletts. It is by John Burk and costs about $19.95.
An N scale modeler friend of mine (Monroe Stewart, his layout has appeared in a Keller video), scratch-built a set of Huletts for his layout, I took some pictures of them at various angles, and posted them on my web site. I also know a guy who sells HO scale Hulett blueprints, as well as other steel mill-related structures/machinery.

Hope this helps…
Didn’t Trains Magazine publish an article on these a few years ago?
Have fun
They may have, but I do recall an article or two in Mainline Modeler quite some time ago because they were so large and unusual.

See page 10 of “American Heritage of Invention & Technology” the summer 2005 issue (volume 21, number 1). The Atomic Bomb is the cover article.
Funny, I never even thought about finding a model of those until you mentioned it… But those would in fact make a great model. I’m sure all the steel RR fans would love them. Sylvan would probably do a good job, but it would definitely be an ambitious project in resin. They also showed the last two functioning ones that work for LTV, on the Trains video that focused on the steel biz.
That N one looks great.
