I am building a very famous 3 ‘level’ N scale module, and am using the humpyard purveyance to activate my Peco code 80 switches. Have one installed that works perfectly, but it got me wondering, would I have better reliability over the years REMOVING the turnout spring? SOMETIMES the sprung turnout BARELY clicks over, is the spring helping or fighting good consistent contact? What have others done?

Remove the spring unless you use your fingers to push the turnout points to the alternate position. They are unnecessary and interfere with the operation of manual and electric switch machines.

Mark is mostly right, BUT, if they work with the spring, then they work. I have left the springs in on all mine with the levers. The levers do have a little give and if they won’t activate with the spring, then you have to take them out. I love the levers, I wonder how you will like them after a while.
I found I had to remove the spring in my Peco turnouts in order for the Humpyard switches to work. I wish I could keep the spring in order to have good tension against the rails - but it couldn’t make it work with it in.
Thank you all, this helps, experimenting now with removing springs, it is an easier installation I must say, just hope it gives consistent contact.
