I think Mike Haverty previously held the record for one man leading the two largest rail systems not related by merger, led at different times by the same man (AT&SF and KCS). Please correct me if I’m wrong. Of course the old KCS wasn’t THAT big, but it surely is now!!
John W. Barriger naturally comes to mind, he was certainly capable, the Rock Island was big (and his only “failure”, certainly not his fault with all the other circumstances bringing down the venerable Rock). The P&LE, Katy, B&M and Monon were certainly significant, but were they “BIG”? But if you add together all 5 of Barriger’s roads, now THAT was BIG, and of course in it’s glory days, the P&LE sure moved a lot of tonnage, the Big Little Railroad (or was that the CNJ)?
I suppose the people with CP has to wear runningshoes from now.
Time to start buying shares in CN
I wonder whether CN will legally be able to do anything about this situation…
In fact, as they claim, Harrison knows all the little and not so little secrets about the way business is conducted at CN, which gives a huge advantage to CP right now, CN’s only competitor in Canada, at least!
But from a legal standpoint, can they do anything about this?
The Peter Principle states that people rise to their level of incompetency. That certainly applies here. Just reading the man’s statement you can see he is a jumble of mixed metaphor and a “platter full of platitudes” It is easy to see why noone likes him, they don’t know what he is trying to say. There is another old axiom…" If you can’t bedazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with Bullstuff"!

Well, Mr. Bean, now you know why I summed it up with the word “surprise.” I wonder if Mr. Ackman’s track record includes milking the cow for all it is worth before sending it to slaughter.
I see you didn’t like my comments on the future (or lack thereof) of CP with HH at the helm.
Does anybody there have the balls to put a little money on it. How about $100 to say that at least 80% of my predictions come true in 5 years or less? Anybody?
The reign of terror is about to begin. Lives will be lost. Mark my words.
Lets hope He’s a man of his word and things get back on track
…make way for pa pa smurf CP. This is going to be interesting.
When CP bought the Ice/DME I thought CP was up to something big…knock, knock WY coal.

I was very impressed how Hunter Harrison turned Illinois Central and Canadian National into one of the most profitable railroads in North America. I am confident Mr. Harrison will make Canadian Pacific one of the best preforming railways in North America once again. The more profitable a railway is the more it can spend on maintaining and improving it’s infrastructure which Canadian Pacific must do to better serve it’s customers.
