Hurricane forces excursion trains to cancel

The National Weather Service issued a “Flash Flood Watch” for Toccoa, destination of the 4501 excursions this weekend:

http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=GAZ018&warncounty=GAC257&firewxzone=GAZ018&local_place1=Toccoa%20GA&product1=Flash+Flood+Watch&lat=34.5799&lon=-83.3247

Note how the Watch says “THIS AMOUNT OF RAINFALL COULD BE HISTORIC AND COULD RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT…LIFE THREATENING…FLASH FLOODING.”

I’m sure the guests were really looking forward to this, but safety first. Maybe they can try it again next year or later this year. It would be awful to have something happen if the trips were to go on.

Hats off to NS and TVRM for making this call.

Too bad. But nobody wants to see that beauty laying on its side after encountering a washout. Good call.

Sad to see that happen, but better safe than sorry!
