I saw a flat car with three cylindrical containers on them recently, never seen one like it before, the closest thing that i can possibly think of that would resemble it would be a old milk flatcar, but modern. The number was HWCX 106, does anyone have a photo/any infromation on this car? Thanks.
They are hopper cars that carry materials for drilling oil wells.
that’s funny…it was a flat car, the tanks were entirely visible. could they maybe just classify this as a hopper car because of its permanent size and weight?
I’ve found it! Here’s the Photo link. It looked almost exactly like that, except that it was numbered 106.

Loaded through the top, unloaded through the piping at the bottom–they function like any other pressure-differential covered hopper cars, so they’re considered to be covered hoppers. That was a good photo and explanation on the link!
I’m sure I remember talking about these on the Forum before (I think Mookie was involved in that discussion, too). As of the end of last year, there were only 41 of the original 75 cars remaining.
There was a thread in early December about these cars and CACV 3000.
