The reason why I’m embarassed is that I work with these things (computers) for a living, and you would think I’d be able to figure this out for myself.
What I would like to do is set my browser so the pictures in WPF and other threads appear actual size. I have noted that whenever I load a thread the pictures as they are loading appear full size, but once the page is finished they immediately diminish and pop up that little message about “click here to rstore to full size”.
I understand the reason for the settings, it’s to accomdate people who have standard sized monitors. But I have a wide screen monitor and can almost always accomodate the full sized image. I would love to disable that “feature” if someone can tell me how. I’ve tried turning off automatic image resizing in IE, but it has no effect on the pictures in the website. I am unaware of any way to change the display prefrences through the site itself. Any suggestions?
Afraid I won’t be much help, but maybe my question to you will help others.
Do I understand that when you click on the yellow, resize bar, you do not get a full size picture? Or you just trying to have all the photos come full size and not have to use that feature?
Pretty much the way it works. The ‘broken’ part if any is that it briefly flashes the large picture. To be ‘bandwidth friendly’ the site should ONLY show the smaller picture, and show the larger version ONLY if you click. Like I did on my site - all pictures are thumbnails, click on one to see the full size. So you only load the large ones you are interested in. Not everyoen ahs super fast internet, and even most of those that do have some sort of limit on how much they cna actually transfer each month.
I have found that this first-show-large images phenomenon comes and goes. Usually the page loads with the typical 4" to the side largish thumbs that have the yellow bar beneath them saying to click for full size. But every once in a while the page loads with lots of flickering and flashing of the huge versions until it is finished loading, at which everything is “normal”. Can’t explain it, but I do endure it. Part of the problem may be the size of the original uploaded image. I assume some upload images directly from their digital cameras without reducing their width. I resize any images I upload to any forum to 750 pixels wide, so when you have an image that is 4300 or so wide, then the software has to deal with it.
I believe what you are wanting is something the website folks have chosen. Either their program is built that way or it is an option they have chosen. Either way I don’t believe it is anything a viewer can change. It, in a sense, would be like rearranging the page or asking your computer to set up a page differently than it was designed by making the ads reeeeal small for instance. The momentary largness I believe is just the time it takes for the computers to sync. Like slow readers depending on the traffic.
Yeah, it’s built into how the forum works. Some forums limit how large an image can be uploaded, others don’t allow viewing pics unless you’re logged in, etc.
I would like to turn off the auto thumbnail thing too, since it’s still loading the full image before it displays the TB.
If anythign should be ‘fixed’ it is the loading of the full size image. The thumbnails (hard to call something that would nearly fill a 650x480- screen a ‘thumbnail’) are usually large enough and pre-loading the full size image completely defeats the purpose. But displaying the full size image right off the bat woudl make for one messy display as the image goes past the frame borders and messes up the text content of the message.
Copy and paste the link into your posting. At the start of the address type “[ IMG ]”, and “[ /IMG ]” at the end. You’ll notice that there are spaces insert before and after the text inside the brackets. Remove the spaces and eliminate the quotation marks when you type the link in your posting.
If you’re inserting your pictures from Photobucket:
Place your cursor on the picture you want to use. A pop-up menu will appear. Click on the “IMG Code” selection. What this does is copy the information into your computer’s Clipboard.
Go to the posting that you want to insert the picture into. Either press “Ctrl V” or right click, “Paste” and the URL information will be inserted into your posting.
