Hi, I am new on here, and probably younger then most, I was kinda looking for ideas of how to set my train set up.
mccurdyc,
First of all, welcome to the forum! Good to have you aboard! [:)]
Here’s what you might try doing for starters. Go to the Atlas web page (http://www.atlasrr.com) and click on the tab labeled “Layouts” and pick the gauge you are interested in. There are about 36 or so layouts pictured: ranging from very simple to somewhat involved. Pick a simpler layout and try it out. Do you have already have track or a train set?
Another good thing to do is to put your track down on a piece of plywood or extrude foam insulation rather than the floor or rug. Carpet fibers and dust can play havoc with your locomotives drive so finding a clean place to run and store your trains is a good idea.
Anyway, that’s a start. Let us know what kind of interests you have or what you would like to do with your layout. Thanks for stopping by…

WELCOME ABOARD!!
If we had some more information, we could help you out. What scale, what type of railroading are you looking to model, what are your interests in the hobby.
Do you have just a simple loop of track? What kind of cars do youhave/want?
Let us knkow and we’ll get you some answers.

[#welcome] Hi, The guys on here are very good with advise, but probably need a little more info like scale, room size, your likes dislikes etc. I’ve just read anyting I can get my hands on and keep asking questions!! Enjoy.
Ken.
Part of the key to getting information is giving information. The more specific your questions the bettter chances of getting a specific answer. For example mention your scale (its obvious to you, but we can’t see in your basement), the brand name of the product, an era or railroad or locale. You will be amazed at the amount of information you can gather in a short time if you ask specific questions.
Enjoy!
