I am so sick of GRAFFITI.

Railfanning realy sucks anymore. I mean what ever you call it I call it Fn’ GD TRASH! TRARARASH! Errrr it makes me so mad. Just today watching a westbound Autorack Train roll by and EVERY GD D*MN car has that stupid crap all over it. I know that the Railroads do what they can to rid of it but even more of it just keeps coming, errr. I mean I don’t like to Photograph the crap because it makes Photo’s look realy stupid. Im sorry about the complaining but this has gone way to far!

IT’S GRAFFITI!!

Spell check…(sheesh)

LC

I love it and I actually take pictures of it when a train is stopped or moving slow. Just the other day I saw a car that had graffiti on it from top to bottom and side to side saying “HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2004”.I could see the car from a mile away it was so colorful.

There you happy now[;)].

BNSF railfan,
I do not like it either, but I have this ‘strange’ feeling, that you might
as well get used to it,as no matter what some people do,it’s going
to be around for awhile.

No matter who likes or dislikes graffitti, when it’s done like that,
it is still vandalism, and that person(s) should be punished
to the fullest extent of the law, if and/or when they are found.

And as an aside to joegreen,do you want that painted on the side
of your car ???

It’s actually graffito, the plural is graffiti. the talent is great, but what a waste destroying other peoples property.

Destroyed??? No, it’s not destroyed. If it were then the vehicle would be un-useable. If anything the extra coats of paint will prolong the life of the asset…

I’m with you man. What kind of messege does it send to shippers? It says that their shipments may be vulnerable to theft or destruction. You never see this on trucks do you?

George

Thank you! your statement is so true. Just yesterday I saw 5 NEW Railbox Box cars and already one of them was TRASHED[V]!

Uh, Hugh.

Since you’re a professional engineer I’m sure that you’re aware that many spray can paints are still lacquer based mixes, though it’s being phased out gradually.

The automotive paints on railroad cars today is enamel based. Some are Urethane others Epoxy. In any case LACQUER BASED PAINTS DAMAGE ENAMEL FINISHES, period! The transfer agent, lacquer thinner, evaporates quickly but in those few minutes the damage is done to the topcoat, even on the modern “super-tough” finishes.( I was a paint & body man for a number of years, in case anyone’s wondering.)

There is absolutely no moral, economic, or social benefit to trashing trains with graffitti.[V]

Oh, for the days of Bozo Texino and a big piece of chalk.

I ve seen tagged rail cars engines equipment bridges and other stuff too.I agree such talent is wasted.
stay safe
Joe

Shoot em where they stand…

Adrianspeeder

Shot them on the spot. They should spend up to 5 years in jail over this nonsince.

What the big deal? We do not own the cars do we now? So why care? I found some of it very neat in fact. [:o)]

Well SPbed,

Just seems like the signs of a decaying society.

As a kid in the late 60s and a teen in the late 70s, watching freight trains with their various colors and logos was always a thrill. Watching freight trains now and seeing the “artistic trash” on them makes me think of gangs, ghetto thugs, kids that aren’t being raised, turf wars. Like it or not, that’s what graffitti is associated with![B)][:0]

Before anyone harps on me with their political correctness drool, I lived in a New York ghetto ( South Bronx) for a while as a kid and remember the graffitti and the gangs only too well! I’m so grateful that my parents made sure that I didn’t get sucked into the street life.

Peace!

BNSF railfan

this ones just for you…

I still think my idea on a similar post is still valid.

The RR’s should set out a couple cars thet need painting, give the taggers a theme and let them go to it. RR’s win since they get cars painted for free & it’s all legal.
[^]

Alas, I suspect all you’d get would be “amateurs.” Most likely, none of the “real” taggers would want to be caught dead doing something like that…

With all due respect, how do you think that the railroad’s customers, the shippers, would react?? Plus, can you imagine the pandora’s box of lawsuits something like this can open? Even with signed waiver’s, a tagger gets hurt or injured (and its so easy on railroad equipment) that host railroad will be paying for that tagger’s grandchildren to go to college!

I see why now railroad’s take hard stance’s on some issues. As a kid, I walked onto a an open 50ft SL door boxcar on a loading dock at a warehouse. No one said anything, though I knew better. As agile as I was, I tripped and fell out of the car due to stepping on a protruding piece of metal next to the door. Painfull lesson! My fault, I wasn’t going to whine about it or try and sue as I hobbled to my bicycle and left. Now, imagine this happening to a young tagger who already has a hostile attituded towards railroads and property rights!!

Unless the railroad car is inside a museum or other safe envioronment, legalized tagging will likely not be adopted.
