I put an interior into a Walthers Milwaukee Road bay window caboose, one of these bright safety-orange ones:
The original project was just to add a couple of illuminated lanterns, but that involved getting the shell off, so I figured I’d might as well add interior lighting and some details.
The hard part was getting the shell off. It’s neither an obvious process nor does it go smoothly once you’ve figured it out. The caboose itself has a rudimentary interior. I added a floor and some wall paneling by printing textures on cardstock, cutting them and gluing them in place, plus a couple of figures. I wired the lights, using a big capacitor and a diode bridge.
What I found was that the interior detailing was pretty pointless, in my case. The windows are too small, and there is no visibility into the car’s interior.
Interior lights are actually quite mandatory in cabooses to show the interior detail.
