I did it !

Bought a station kit a while back (and built it) and inside was a sealed package of wooden parts, no plan, no instructions and no photo, I assumed the parts looked like a bridge of some sort, tried for 2 weeks to find plans or a description of the kit, then assumed it was a deck bridge with supports under neath, so- - - - found a small photo of a deck bridge and started to assemble it, got it finished and looks great, few parts left over but who cares, tried to get a photo on the forum of the bridge but do not have 2 weeks to try and figure out how to add a photo to the forum, massive set of instructions and information to send a simple photo, what’s an URL anyway? ? sorry no photo, can send photos everywhere else but not to MR forum.

How to post pictures to a thread.

tatans,

Simply put:

  1. Find a host to host your pics (e.g. Railimages or Photobucket) and register
  2. Once registered, upload the photo(s) to the host site
  3. From the host site - with your RIGHT mouse button, click on the photo you want to post then click “Copy Image Location” from the drop-down menu - This will copy the URL or web address of your photo
  4. Open a post or new post in the forum
  5. Above your text box there will be an icon (2nd line, in the middle) that looks like a photograph - Click the “Insert image” icon button
  6. In the Link to Media text box paste the URL of your photo - This can be achieved by either right clicking in the text box and clicking “Paste” from the drop-down menu…or pressing the “Ctrl” and V" button on your keyboard. (You should see an “http://www…” address in the text box.)
  7. Click on the Insert button at the bottom and your photo should show up in your post - If it doesn’t, you’ve done it incorrectly
  8. Click on the Post button to post the photo on the forum

That’s it. Hope that helps…

Tom

An URL is web site address, just look at what’s in your address bar on your web browser.

For example, this URL is from my Picassa Photo album web site address.

http://picasaweb.google.com/109133451350466746737/DepotStation#5841479931366399362

Under stand that THIS website (cs.trains.com) does NOT do photos.

You have to put your photos somewhere else on the Internet, get a “link” to that somewhere else, and paste the “link” into the “Insert Image” control. “Insert Image” has the icon of a TV set.

There are a lot of websites that will accept photos, for free. I use Photobucket. Facebook probably works too. On Photobucket, after you have uploaded your photo, copy the “link”. Click on the photo to expand it to full size. Next to the photo will be a list of seven different styles of “links”. “Direct Link” is the type that works on the MR website. Copy the “Direct Link” with control C.

Switch back to the MR website, click on “Insert Image” and paste (control V)the “direct Link” into the control.

Other picture websites work, but expect them to work somewhat differently.

Hi Jeffery, All valuable information except for one thing. The Kodak Sure Shot digital camera I got from my son last Christmas won’ work on my new Windows 8 laptop. Seems Microsoft screwed up in putting an app heavy operating system on a machine that doesn’t work that way. My last machine had Windows 7 and my camera loaded up in a matter of minutes.

Spent 35 minutes waiting to talk to a Kodak techie, only to find out I have to purchase the drivers from them. A trial time of 30 days will set me back $19 bucks and change. When I try to set up the camera, I keep getting “script error 009”, what ever the heck that is.

Darn it anyway, all this new garbage and it DOESN’T WORK! And no, I’m not buying another camera. My son has advanced throat cancer and the camera needless to say, has special meaning for me. I’ve wanted to post pics on several sites, but look’s like all I can do now is buy more memory sticks and keep them on there. Sorry for the RANT, but this technical stuff is screwed up! Bill

Does the camera use an SD or SDHC card. Get an USB SD card reader. Take the card out of the camera and put it in the card reader then plug the reader into a USB port. The computer will see the reader as an external drive and you can access the photos directly. I use a card reader for almost all my cameras.

Roger that! I’ve been using a USB card reader with my Canon Digital Rebel flash memory chip from the git-go, and it has never failed me - even on my Windows 8 laptop,

My 17yr-old daughter, OTOH, plugs her camera directly into her computer’s USB port with a vendor-supplied cable, and her photos frequently get scrambled. I’ve offered several times to pickup a card reader for her flash memory, but she insists that “that’s not the problem.” Oh well, she’s a teenager, so obviously she knows more than her dad…[:-^]

I’m just the opposite from you, like your Daughter I unload the Olympus, the Canon or the Fuji from cables. The Olympus and the Canon use 1, the Fuji another. I never pull the cards out (its a P.I.A), Pics transfer over without a problem! (unlike your Daughter) …different strokes…[:D]

More on computers:

Just got a new Windows 8 machine and it has an SD card reader hiding on the front of the case under the keyboard.

Haven’t had to use it yet …

Eric

Hi again Jeffery, Well, you were spot on about these little readers. Found a Kodak model at Radio Shack for $14.00 and change, and it worked like a breeze! Thanks a ton for all your info. You guys rock! Bill Lester
