But the noise it makes on it’s own sounds more like an old Alco.
Anybody able to quiet them down a bit. I plan to latch it to my Atlas GP-38 with sound. I’d rather hear that.

I think that’s just the way Bachmann’s are…but I think proper lubrication will help…as it did with my GP40’s but not a lot though…
Chip,
How much has the GP 35 been run? Any new loco needs to be run in and it takes more than a few minutes. With a new loco I open the gear boxes and add lube such as white molly or lithium grease. I lube the bearings in the towers/drive trains. Even though I use DCC, I run the loco on an oval of track at 3/4 throttle for at least an hour in forward, then at least an hour in reverse. This seems to quiet down most all locos, even Athearn BB’s. When I take them apart to install decoders, I clean the armature and brushes.
The big thing is, Run-in takes some time.
If you are running DCC, some decoders make some engines run noisey (it varies, don’t know why). Often switching decoders quiets the hum or growl down.
Good Luck
Tilden
I ran it for 2 hours last night, but only in forward. I have to re-install the light board for DCC use so I have to pull the shell anyway. It seemed very well lubed when I installed the decoder. The decoder is a Digitrax, the 123 version for HO. I didn’t pay much attention. I have a bunch of different ones sitting around. Pulling the brushes involves splitting the frame. I want to keep that to a minimum as the screw are self-tapping into plastic.
