I give up! What color is it?

I’m trying to finish up my 2025 restoration and hit a snag. I purchased a rubber stamp from Olsen’s, and the instructions say postwar engines were usually stamped in white. Looking at a few other engines I have, they all look like they are stamped in silver, but if I look at them long enough, I guess they could have started out in white and faded over time. Should a 2025 have white or silver numbers?

The 2-6-2 2025s from the 40’s have a silver stamped cab number. Not sure about the 2-6-4 2025s. I restamped my 2025 in silver based on the color on an original shell I have. See below:

Jim,

That’s what I thought. Stamped and drying. Curious what pilot/steamchest is on the engine pictured. Does it have the simulated coupler on it?

No simulated coupler on my 2025’s pilot. As far as I can tell, mine is a Type III from 1947. It has a red decal with “5690” on the front.

Thanks. Interesting looking at the pictures of your 2025 and comparing it to mine. On the left hand side there are visible casting flaws (right above the the first handrail cotter-pin from the rear, and one under the smokestack about 1") on yours and both of mine. I will need to go look at my 675 to see if it has the same. You would think that Lionel would have corrected the problem during production. First noticed it on the 2025 I’ve been stripping this week, and thought it was a flaw with only this engine. Very interesting.
