Bad news. I asked Hornby/Rivarossi where I could get C&NW 60’ passenger cars. I received an Email this morning telling me that they were “obsolete” but they would forward the request to the marketing department.
Perhaps if enough people asked, they would resume production. I know there is a market for 60 footers!
I’ve noticed the Athearn 60’ cars are fetching a pretty high price on E-Scam since it looks like they’ve been discontinued too. I’ve seen some sets sell for double what their new price was just a year ago.
I did not know that Athearn had produced a 60’ passenger coach. Are you thinking of the last sets of 60’ coaches as produced by Rivarossi in their four car sets?
These have more than doubled in price in last couple months. I did manage to pick up a few sets prior to the big increase.
In all fairness these are well detailed with interiors and metal wheels, track/pull well and even work on 18" radius trackwork. Couplers need to be changed over to kadee, that is my only complaint.
I almost missed my opportunity to get some Athearn Santa Fe streamlined coaches!! I had given up since Athearn discontinued there coach, not being sure if they would make another run. Well, they did and I almost missed it before they where sold out again. A coach and a vista dome car arrived on my front porch yesterday. Because Im not made of money, I used to purchase part of the cars and then another part later. But because of the “batch system”, this can lead to you missing out on the second installment of cars. Example, I want a 20 car train of 40’ Santa Fe “map” reefers. Well, most of them are not available. I’ve got examples of the Chief, Super Chief, and Scout, but I need more of these plus the El Capitan and Grand Canyon. It may take a year or more to accumilate the cars if I use Ebay. What a system!!! How many sales are Athearn and the rest losing? ALOT!!!
C’mon guys, get a grip!! As noted before, in Athearnspeak “discontinued” means “out of stock for now”. The cars are going to be around long after we’re gone. Chill out.[;)]
BTW they aren’t 60’ cars. The streamlined cars are 72’ long, shortened versions of 80’ cars. The heavyweight coach is 70’, the RPO and Baggage are I think 67’…which is correct for those three cars. Only the diner, sleeper and observation car are shortened from 80’.
