Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of LARGE SCALE TRAINS ! The GP-30 is a real nice unit . You’ll like the SD70 mac also . 100 car coal train hugh , thats out of my budget thats for sure .

Well done mate i hope you are happy with it, get it running as soon as possible is my advice.

Thats an impressive bit of hardware - 100 car train sounds good - Lets see USA trains are currently $63.89 for a 70 ton hopper … Soooo thats $6389 dollars - plus a bit of dry transfer to renumber them… Each one is 17 inches long so thats 141 feet long - hmmmm It sounds good but i reckon you might need to start a wee bit smaller .I would love to see some pictures of it pulling 15 or so cars tho- should look great. My reference tractive effoert table suggests that 100 might be a wee bit optomistic

Welcome to the mob!

Realize, this loco is 3 times as long as an HO loco, and 27 times as “big.”

Welcome to the world of outdoor rial roading. As davenower “suggests that 100 might be a wee bit optimistic”. The main thing is to get some track and then go play in the dirt. Have fun and above all else share your fun often with pictures. As an old departed friend of mine used to say “Fun shared is thrice enjoyed, once by doing, once by telling, and once by listening.”

Nice locomotive. I love the GP 30s. Though it would look better in armour yellow and harbor mist gray. LOL

Ain’t nothing like the big stuff to get the juices flowing!

Oh you know it boy. I love running my dash 9s in UP over the road lashed up with a long train in tow. Especially since my cousin put in the sound system for me.
