I have a Backmann Billboard Collectors Series...anyone know the value

I have a sealed box. Never opened. Box 's is excellent to near mint condition.

The model is in mint condition and never removed or touched.

It is:

Bachmann Billboard Collectors Series. Commemorative Anniversay Edition Valoline Express 125 years.

Can anyone help me with establishing a value of this item.

Thank you. You can email me at:

Thanks for your help.

You misspelled it by one letter, but I know that you meant Valvoline.

My advice would be to list it on ebay, starting the opening bid at say $100.00 and see what happens. I did that for a friend of mine a couple of years ago that had a Con-Cor steam engine he wanted to sale. I figured he’d be lucky to get $75.00, but he ended up getting around $150.00 for it. You just never know.

Odds are that it is worth very little…unless you can find that one special buyer who just happens to be thristing for that car in that particular paint scheme.

Generally, such “anniversary/special edition” cars and trains are worth no more than the common sets offered by the same company but are sold at inflated prices to persons who happen to have some special interest in that trade name (Pepsi, Coke, Disney, et al.) - or even offered as premiums to customers by the companies themselves. You can always put the car up on eBay at some inflated figure and work the price downwards until it sells. Just remember, there is no broad collectors’ market for HO.

Well, there are some guys that collect it, even if the broads don’t![:P]

Seriously, I think CNJ is right on… Most of the time stuff marked “collectable”- isn’t!

You can watch and search Ebay to see if any like items show up and watch the bidding to find out if it sell, and what the selling price was.

Many of the items in this type of category are not really that hard to find, and the demand is low. Even much of the really rare brass today is not bringing in great prices. I believe Ebay is partly responsible for the lower sale prices since no much is available and too few buyers with money. .

Thanks for all of the replies. I will take a look at ebay and see what happens. In the past I stayed away from ebay because I didn’t know the worth. I was told that there were only 200 given as gifts.

I will take your suggestion and look for individuals who collect Valvoline items.

Thanks for your response and honesty.
