I bought it and I need to know if any of you have any ideals on how to keep the locomotives shell on. I don’t want to use glue b/c it would be to hard to mess with if I wanted to put a decoder inside it.
an input would be great. I also hear a squeaking sound when it runs.
Thank you
I have two of the Dash 8-40CWs, an older and the latest. The older one has two screws on the bottom of the fuel tank. Remove these screws, and either the shell slides off, or the fuel tank does, reveiling two more screws. I believe mine follows the latter.
On the latest model, you need to remove the couple boxes, and I think the shell slides right off. The latest model has a better level of detailing, and the couples are mounted to the underbody itself, instead of the trucks.
I am not certain on these, I haven’t taken them apart in a while, so be careful if you follow these steps. The squeaking may be due to either; a)The model needs to be broken in, or b)The gearboxes need lube/grease.
The Bachmann Dash 8 is an excellent locomotive, and if the squeaking is caused by a factory defect, contact their service department, and they will either repair or replace the old one.
