Hi
I have been of this forum for many months and the reason is because i got into bmx and simply could not afford mrr’ing.
I am looking for suggestions on a way to have a nice railroad without spending a tone on switches
I already have 2 switches (WOW!!!) and i had to save very hard to get them.
Im not sure wether to just forget about it or try but buying many switches is not an option for me.
Im trying to find a fun trackplan with few switches but i cannot!
Any advise is much appreciated and its nice to be back
Many thanks

The Atlas website has many track plans that would suit your needs.

This will DEFINITLY help. They have tons of good track plans for all scales!

You can build a descent layout with 3-5 switches.Try using a 30 degree or so crossover
in a double loop configuration. This can double the amount of mainline you can fit into a 4 by 8. The Atlas site cas good small track plans on it.
Good luck!
P.S. Just sell your BMX bike and/or skate board. You’ll just get hurt on those things.(I did)
Model Railroadings MUCH safer!
I’ll try to give you some hope…er, some help. First, take out some blank paper and draw two or three non-symmetrical loops. The idea is not to follow the edges of a 4x8 sheet, if that is what you are using. Edge following loops are jot recommended…okay, they’re boring.
Then, on one side of the loop, draw off, going towards the inside of the loop, a somewhat curved spur of about four feet. Then, close to where that spur leaves the main loop, draw another spur that goes backward, inside the loop, off the first spur you just drew. It should look, very coarsely, like this:
/------------------------------------\ ---------------------/--------- -------------------------/-----------/
The slashes are meant to be large radius curves at each ‘end’ of the loop. The first spur comes off the bottom ‘side’ at your first switch, and should go far enough to get a longi***rain past the second switch, which will follow a few inches, say 12, from the first.
If you would like me to send you a scanned representation by e-mail, I will do that with your permission.
So, you can do a lot with only two switches.
Edit- when I posted this, the software turned my diagram into what you see…sorry.
