I recently picked up 20 old railroading books for $20. I got a first edition Track Planning for Realistic Operation, a track planning book by Paul MAllory, a couple books on Scenery, one by Dave Frary, etc.
One that I didn’t pay a lot of attention to at first was I like Trains. It is a compilation of the 20 best articles from Trains Magazine written from 1940-1954. Talk about a gold mine. These articles were written where the WOW factor was about the advancements in railroading technologies from the perspective of someone who was reporting it as unfolding… What we think of as history was new and exciting in these articles.
Nothing like someone dropping the mindset of your prototype into your lap.
