I listened to my scanner right for once, and this is what I caught (premiering at 11:45 PM tonight)

I went railfanning with my new scanner yesterday, and I caught some nice action, which I thought would make a cool end of the year video. Video releases at 11;45 tonight. Also, take note what I can hear with my scanner (Tree68, others who have helped me on the other thread).

11:45 PM in what time zone?

11:45 Eastern Standard Time. I’ve gotten an invite myself, I’m flattered and looking forward to it!

A fun five minutes! I wish it was longer!

Looking forward to the next one!

“Switching” reminds me that I should note that the locomotive radios transmit at 50 watts, with a fixed antenna. The portable radios used by conductors and others transmit at five watts, oftimes with the radio (which has a “rubber duck” antenna) hanging on their belt, using a speaker/mic.

This will mean that if you’re beyond a certain distance, you won’t hear the handhelds, only the locomotives.

Nice video, by the way.

Thanks Larry and Wayne, I have noticed that I only hear the D11 crew’s handhelds when I’m really close, like right next to them switching. On another note, I found out there’s a facebook group for the D&H North End, which is literally a life saver for me, I just hope my mom gets accepted (I don’t have facebook).

I don’t do the Facebook neither. I don’t miss it. The wife, Lady Firestorm, does it but only because all of her siblings do and that’s how they tend to communicate, otherwise she wouldn’t bother with it either.
