Hey everyone Just got a Bachmann Spectrum Engine for my B-day which is
wedsday. It is lots better then i thought it would be. Exelent detail also very quit
running also number boards light up and the back lights as well. Im so glad i
got this engine.
[bday] What kind of locomotive is it?
I do diesels. But I installed sound in a spectrum steamer for a guy one time. Great engines. If I did steam Id have a fleet of em.
It is a C40-8 Norfolk Southern Engine.
Happy birthday !!!Norfolk southern !! Thats my son’s favorite road. He and I both like the GEunits alot. I’ve got mostly EMD units now, but I have 3 of the GE Units, some one please check me here. U28-C U30-C U36-C And onece again congratulations. Joey.
Well good im not the only one collecting NS. SOunds like you have good round of them this my 5th NS engine.
I have a SW1500 NS swicher, NS GP50 NS GP59 OLS NS and a C40-9W OLS. +
My new C40-8 its great. only been back in the hobby a little over a year and lots of great
stuff.
Not a fan of NS or GE’s, but to each his own. I do love Spectrum engines, though. I several EMD diesels, and the only steamers on my roster are Spectrum.

I hope it lasts the week before it takes a dump!
Pfft! I forgot spectrum made diesels. How could I forget, I have 3 of them![xx(][B)][xx(]
Well done on the new loco, I have Bachmann spectrum passenger cars and hoppers. They are really nice models. perfect RTR’s.
Oh I’m collecting Norfolk & Western.
Ken.
Congratulations, Walter. I hope that engine brings you a lot of joy.
I am an Nscaler. I think they still have some catching-up to do. Spectrum is Bachmann’s “flagship” line, yet in Nscale they still come with rapido couplers. The Nscale deisels are pricier than comperable units from Atlas and Kato. In Nscale, Bachmann still has some quality-control issues. This may be balanced out by their lifetime warranties, though. Their Consolidation is fantastic, but still, why not knuckle couplers on the Nscale stuff? I appreciate the steam engines they have added to Nscale. I am glad Bachmann makes its Spectrum line. In Nscale they still have a little way left to go.
I like my Bachmann Spectrum Steam (2-8-0, 4-8-2) and I even like my Spectrum SD45’s for what they are. But if you get a GP30, GP35 or GP50 expect to be disappointed.

Congraturations!![:D] I also love Bachmann Spectrum. I have 3 of their diesels (including an old 8-40CW which just happens to run very well) and love them all![:D] Is it one of the new DCC ready versions with all the see through vents and other cool details, or is it one of the older ones with a simple split frame like mine?
I have 4 Bachman Spectrum–
A 2-8-0 with Soundtrax which my son loves.
A 3 Truck Shay with Soundtrax which I love
A GP-30 that I got for $12.50 NIB at a train show which is still in the box. Jury is out. It’s got a Split Chasis and I have to install DCC. It is also undecorated so it is quite a project ahead.
and a Dash 8-40CW N scale that seems tor run okay forward, but whines like my daughter in reverse.
I have a H16-44, and 2 GP35s. The details are lacking, the drive is loud, the slow speed is nonexistant, and the price for the three is the same as my Kato GP35. If you want long consists without a big investment, go spectrum. Unless they’ve gotten better…
Also, the windows on the 35s are too big.
Matthew
P.S.Happy B-day, and congrats
Getting DCC installed shouldn’t be as hard as you think. Just follow these simple steps.[:D]
Step 1: Remove the stock PC board from the engine
Step 2: Insulate the motor from the frame by clipping the motor leads short enough so they can still have wires soldered to them
Step 3: Put electrical or masking tape around the area where the motor contacted the frame to make sure the motor can’t contact the frame
Step 4: If there isn’t enough room to put the decoder in the engine, mill the frame down until it fits
Step 5: Mask off the part of the frame the decoder will be in
Step 6: Solder wires to the motor to go to the decoder
Step 7: Insulate the trucks from the frame
Step 8: Solder wires to the trucks to go to the motor
Step 9: Disconnect the lights from the original PC board
Step 10: Solder wires to the lights if they can’t go from the headlight lenses in the shell to the decoder
Step 11: Connect all the wires to where they go on the decoder
Step 12: Reassemble the engine
Hope this helps!![:D][:D][:D]
I recently won a Spectrum 2-8-0 on eBay; should be arriving any day. It’ll be the only steam engine on my layout (mid-50’s), but I also ordered a Soundtraxx decoder for it. It’ll be my ‘railfan trip’ engine, pulling some heavyweight cars, and will come out when I want to have fun or impress a visitor.[:D]
