I Love seeing those CN colours

I’ve been noticing a lot more CN colours in peoples signatures. Are the a lot of CN modellers out there? I’m born and raised on CN in Canada so that’s what I model.

I grew up about a mile from the CN main line in Alberta, so that is what I model as well, but I also do CP, as I live about a mile from a major CP yard now. I also want to do VIA, but in the older blue/yellow stripe. Also, I model in N and it seems difficult to find many CN engines in my modeling era (70s-80s), they are either transition era or modern. Your photo looks like a good one, but it appears to be HO.

i too model CN… a bit of a challenge now and then but fun. I live in a CN town… Sarnia.

I used to model CN, but my love of Canadian Pacific took over in 97, the year I moved back to Toronto from Sarnia.

CN isn’t my main modelling thing, but it does have some of my favorite motive power, much better than CP has now.

I’m a CN modeller, but I’m moving away from that to Algoma Eastern (Northern Ontario shortline circa 1915).

As to CN stuff in N for the 70’s and 80’s, well it’s going to be difficult to find a lot of CN stuff, because apart from the C424’s, SD40’s, GP40’s and GP38’s, pretty much all of CN’s second gen power was either unique to CN (Wide cabs, Draper Tapers) or similar only to BC Rail and the occasional CP Rail locomotives (6 axle Alco/MLW units), and that was the majority of CN’s power back then. note that apart from one order of GP38-2’s, all of CN’s -2’s were widecabs. So your easiest bet is to use mostly 1st gen and non dash-2 2nd gen EMD power. For 1st gen power, the F7’s, GP9’s and RS-18’s lasted through that era (As did the GMD-1’s, but you won’t find any RTR GMD-1’s) and of course CN boasted a large fleet of plain SD40’s and GP40’s.

I liked CN before they bought out my favorite railroad, ILLINOIS CENTRAL.

Happy Railroading.[swg][swg]

Back when I was modelling N, the only painting I did was a CN green and black baggage car. I may still have it. I redid a GTW pacific to CN as well.
Most of my railway travelling has been on CN since CP got out of the business when I wasn’t looking.

Yep, love the CN. I used to model the wet noodle schemes, however I have backdated my layout in the last year and now model the green and gold CNR schemes. Love 'em.

I live about a block from the CN mainline in MIchigan and get to watch trains out the window quite a bit.

Living on the shores of Lake Ontario its hard not to like CN. I have a few CN loco’s in my roster.

Uhhh, dude, lemme tell ya something. Yes its now CN, but its all IC guys running the show. And i hate harrison too. I model the WC, maybe a CN loco or two but i really cant stand CN. They buy out everything in sight, my two favorite railroads were gone before i could get to know them. The DMIR and the WC.

Nice to see other CN enthusiasts out there. Sorry that CN’s success is putting a damper on some smaller locals. But that shouldn’t effect modelling, which is usually specific to a by gone time frame.

Personally I’m glad CN owns WC and IC. I love seeing roads other than CN from time-to-time at my local train station. In addition, I’ve always liked the WC livery and when I found out that CN owned WC I felt I could now go out and buy WC loco’s as there appearance on my CN line would be reasonable.

Thanks for sounding off.

CN runs a Ontario Northland SD75I so you might want to pick one of them up too, they are very nice loco’s.

CN’s success was bought at the Canadian Taxpayers expense.

If the debt CN created was transfered to CN when it went public, CN wouldn’t have been able to survive.

Just my 2 cents.

I model D&RGW, narrow and standard. But I have always had great fondness for anything Canadian, so there is probably more than a prototypical percentage of CN and CP boxcars, etc that show up on my layout.

As for CN swallowing the IC, I have a buddy who works MOW and he seems happy with the transition. I know it can be traumatic to see your favorite road go away, but thank your lucky stars it wasn’t Ol’ Yeller that swallowed it.

Now I’ll have my NMRA buddies who work for the UP PO-ed, so I’d better be quiet…

I’m modelling (N-scale) in an extended transition era, ie I have some steam, some green/yellow and some wet noodle (nothing later).
There’s also some interchange with CP that comes in both maroon/grey and MM.

Please don’t sic the proto-police on me.
