Take a look at the comments that a number of us made in a recent thread entitled,
“Conductor Trainee here I come”
LC
Indeed I shall. Thank you. It really does kind of suck with this 75,80,85…pay progression. But the funny thing is even with this scale I will still make more than I did at my previous job. Kinda funny that way. We are going to Willmar today to find a place to live. We have to relocate as right now I live about 2 hours away from there. I can’t get over how cheap real estate is in that area. You can get a nice 2000-2500 square foot home on 5 acres of land for around $150k. Even to rent is cheaper. Our last townhouse cost us about $1000 a month. Some of the ones i’ve seen that are just as big in the Willmar area are around $575/month. Quite the difference. I just can’t wait to start [:D]
Way to go!
I’m just starting week 6 of the conductor training. There is a lot to learn, but it’s a lot of fun.
You’ll love the hat they give you
[:D]
GOOD JOB!!! Glad to have another railroader to join our forum family here!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Whoa there. Don’t make the mistake that many new railroaders make. Just because you are making a good buck, don’t start buying all the expensive bells and whistles. Remember, when winter comes and traffic falls after Christmas you could find yourself as new man at the bottom of the totem pole (roster) cut off and on the street. Tough to pay the mortgage or the payment on that shiny new Dodge Ram on RR unemployment. If you must invest in real estate, get a duplex or triplex that you can live in one unit and collect income from the other two. That way, even if you get cut off you can pay your bills.

Congratulations from one conductor trainee to another. Like LC said, look up the thread that I had started because these guys are giving some great info to help us along. Congrats again.
