I really miss the big silver and red warbonnets that went down the rails, i was such an atractive scheme, and those blue and yellows glistening in the sun was reall a site to be seen. Now all i ever see is bnsf and their schemes are such putrid colors it makes me want to throw up, everyday there are fewer and fewer santa fe units on the rails.i really wi***he BNSf would do what the Union Pacific did and paint some heritage units, i would love to see the Big silver and red Warbonnet shinning brightly on the side of a brand new GEVO it would be so awesome, but for the time being i must sit and wait and look at photos of the good ole days of santa fe.
Forever live the SANTA FE
I like their “Cat Whisker” paint scheme. Santa Fe was my favorite railroad when I was five years old, since that was the scheme of my first HO train, a red/silver warbonnet GP40.
I dont think small children should be allowed to see a patched unit [B)] it will make them cry.
I miss the Santa Fe too. Today I saw a GP60M in work train service. I wish it was still pulling the 199. I hope that BNSF keeps around the warbonnet locomotives.
I’m glad that there are lots of them left. [:)] Take your time, BNSF. [;)]
Go to the last exit in Arizona & you will find a ATSF girder bridge with the ATSF logo on it. There is also a water tower there. [:o)][:p][:)]

First off that ^^ made me chuckle.[:D] Personally I like the warbonet alot but it looks alot better with BNSF on the side rather than Santa Fe.
For the record im a teen…i havnt been alive for much of the Sante Fe.
Soooo, you want to pay more for models of the AT&SF??? They already have alot of SF units left. Just be glad the BNSF isnt doing what the UP did for the same reasons.
The Warbonnet scheme dissapeared for many years. It was brought back as a marketing ploy (in 90’ I think) to show there pride in there intermodial hotshots. They chose to bring it back because it was the most recognisable railroad paint scheme (hey UP…do you think that might have something to do with all those F unit models painted that way).
Perhaps one day down the line the BNSF marketing people will see the historical significance of this and once again bring back the warbonnets.
The “Warbonnets” and “Yellowbonnets” are seen out here in Ohio at Greenwich or Berea, hotspots, up to 4 times a day. So they are not uncommon around here. Last Sunday, two came through Greenwich. A GP60M and an SD75I, those are usually the Warbonnets, but the Yellowbonnets are usually GP38-2s or B40-8s.
ATSF widcabs have the Warbonnet scheme and standard cabs have the Yellowbonnet scheme. The cabless ATSFs(GP60Bs) had the warbonnet too but all have been painted to H1.Most of the B40-8s have been painted too except for 1 or 2.
I saw BNSF 8625 yesterday with the yellowbonnet scheme…pretty rare to see a B40-8 still wearing its original ATSF paint.
