I must be crazy.....

Made a trip to the LHS tonight. Picked up - ANOTHER P2k tank car kit! I must be crazy, but I kinda like these things now. They’re perfect late steam/early diesel cars. Another basic black SHPX car, different number than my other one (naturally).
Found another unbuilt kit on my shelf, too. An old E&B Valley covered hopper, a custom run in B&O, I bought it last year at a train show and never got around to putting it together. That and the tank car will take some time. Then there’s my 6 Stewart Reading hoppers, just have to get a nice day outside so I can go out and spray the weights flat black and I can get those together assembly-line fashion.
And of course, keep working on the layout… still need to get the sidings and yard in, control panels built, and plan the expansion. wheeeeee!

Go for it Randy, you only go this way once !!!

Randy,

You can pick up these tank cars on Ebay for cheap. I paid about $4.00 each for P2K 8,000 and 10,000 gallon tankers. I find it is easy to buy them, harder to get around to assembling them. I have about 50 or more of these types of car kits waiting to be assembled… Maybe your way of one at a time is better or a least more honest with one’s self…

A word of caution: Once you get used to the look of highly detailed cars, you won’t be able to go back to shake the box kits…It may already be too late…

I’ve also seen P2K cars on the Trainworld web site at blowout prices, as well.

Randy,

I am of the opinion that you can never have too many of anything in trains. Just need more room and a bigger layout. [:D][:D]

Thanks again for all your help Randy with my layout design and ideas.

Oh, it’s already too late for me to go back to shake the box kits. Lowest I’ll settle for now is the Branchline Yardmasters. Those are close to shake the box but look a lot nicer.
Of course, with all these cars, I’ve been spending more time in assembling kits than working on the layout, I REALLY need to get going on the layout again. I think I’ll leave these two in the box for now. I WAS going to paint the weights for my 6-pack of hoppers, but gain, if I DON’T do that I WON’T put the kits together and I WILL work on the layout instead.

You’re not crazy…You just love model RRing… I have 30 engines, 100 car kits, a new train room all finished and I still haven’t started… It would help if I could think about retiring but I am off to Russia or the Far East or back to Afghanistan next month… I may take a kit or two with me so that when the time comes, I will not be faced with a backlog… As the man said… Enjoy you only go around once…

Love your inputs…

Curious RRinker who is your LHS ? Dave

Trains and Lanes in Easton.

I grew up a half mile from there, and I’ve been going there since the place opened. Back then it was for my RC car (I had an electric RC car when I wasin college, still have it somewhere, in pieces [:D]).
