When my parent moved us to a farm in 1963 there were 3 old bathtubs in and outside the barn for watering livestock. I think there was a remodeling boom in the fifties because every farm I was ever on seemed to have one or two old bathtubs for watering.
Now I am putting a loading ramp and pen on my layout and need to detail it. I am afraid I will need to make something myself, some kind of casting, plaster or RTV silicone.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Have you looked in the Walthers N scale catalog under details or scratchbuilding secton. I seem to remember something like a trough (sp).
I did a search in N scale with the keyword “bathtub”. I did get a full page of gondola’s but nothing else except for decals for gondolas.

If you supplied the bathtub, I could have run it through my Super-Heterodyne Reducing Neuron Kavitator machine (a.k.a. the SHRINK machine). Unfortunately, the Lenticular Image Arresting Responder (LIAR) coil is on the blink, and I’m looking for a used one since the new ones cost a fortune and anyway are on backorder. [:D][}:)][:D]

Don’t need the lady, that clawfoot tub will work nicely. There si a chair that will look good on a porch there to. Thanks that is a great site for detail bits.
The Hot tubs are amazing but I think would be a little out of place in the 1950’s.

I have some of their stuff at New Rail Models, very sharp detail. Nice hot tub, price is nice too, they also have some VW’s, I need to visit their site more they seem to be enlarging the line.
I seem to remember in the Walthers Catalog for N-Z scale they had a pewter detail part that was one of those horse troughs, the steel ones. I don’t have my catalog handy, but can try and take a look later. If you have one, it will be more towards the back of the catalog.
Hello bukwrm. I’ve always had to sculpt, mold or carve things like bath tubs myself out of what ever material was on hand. For something like an N scale tub, I’d take a 1/4 inch wooden dowl, carefully saw a 1/2 inch piece off of it, sand or file both ends round then sand or file it in half to give it the shape of a water melon that’s been sliced down the middle, then paint it white on the outside and light blue on the flat side to look like water. As for the feet. You could use a razor blade and snip the tips off of tooth picks, glue them on, paint them to match the tub and you’ve got it…
