I Need a Good N Scale Plastic Coal Mine Kit

Does anyone know where I can get a GOOD N Scale PLASTIC coal mine kit? The only one I can find, so far, is the “Old Coal Mine” kit by Model Power. It looks like an abandoned coal mine. I want an active one. Oh yeah! Laser cut and I don’t seem to get along too well. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Walthers have a good mining kit which I have on my layout. It is quite popular with N scale modellers.

It is called New River Mine. It is the same one that was covered in a recent thread, although most of the ones in the thread are the HO version. Follow this link to the thread.

I’ve gone through Walther’s on-line catalog several times looking for the “New River Mine” kit and couldn’t find it. Am I missing something or has it been discontinued?

Thanks river_eagle. I understand the problem now. It is currently “Not in Stock” and I was looking only at the “In Stock” items. It’s supposed to be back in stock by 4 July 2006. I’ll try to get one then. Of course regarding something like this I’m worse than a kid at Christmas.

Thanks to all for your help and advice.

Try M.B. Klein:

It’s about a quarter of the way down. Hmmm, seems a bit cheaper than list, too…

MisterBeasly-Are walthers cornerstone series buildings built ups?? I hope so as if they are I will buy some next winter to put on my N scale layout.

I don’t have any of them myself. I think they are available as both built-ups and kits. I’ve mostly been buying DPM kits myself. They capture the “downtown” look perfectly.

Right now the only Walthers N scale built-ups I know of are the Dayton Machine Company, the steel water tower, and the trackside building set with interlocking tower, speeder shed, and watchman’s shanty. They’re also supposed to release built-up Golden Valley passenger and freight depots, but the expected date keeps slipping. I have the trackside building set and had to VERY CARFULLY paint them into PRR colors (two-tone brown with red window sashes). Would have been easier had they also been available as kits.

Here’s the site for Walthers N Scale Cornerstone kits. It will tell you which structures are kits and which are built-ups. Read it carefully though because, as I learned, not all of them are in stock.

This shop had a few left the last time I was in there: http://esthershobby.com/. Esthers Hobby Shop is located in Millvale, PA…not too far from downtown Pittsburgh. This shop is well-known locally for their N scale stuff. I bought my N scale New River Mine there…he still had 2 kits in stock.
