I need help choosing plants for a garden railroad project!!!!!!

if any one has any ideas about plants for this layout please tell me[:D][:D]

Could you provide more information? Where are you located–is the area sunny, shady, a mix? There are many factors to consider when selecting plants.

im in the corner of my backyard and theres a tree that makes it shady but sun still shines on the area.

With out any information filled out in your profile and what you’ve given us here, we can tell you absolutely nothing. What would be good plants in the corner of your backyard under a tree in Mesa, Arizona probably would not be good plants in the corner of your yard under a tree in Sitka, Alaska. So hopefully as you can see the question you’ve asked with the information you’ve given cannot be answered with any amount of accuracy.

Yes, we do need to know your plant Zone information. If you don’t know, go to the Zone map and you can find out: http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/ushzmap.html

As Realitors say, Location, Location, Location!

I THINK THEIR SHOULD BE MORE MANDATORY THINGS TO ENTER THE FORUM . INSTEAD OF A FEW LETTERS. WHEN I DON’T SEE MUCH INFORMATIOM IN ONES PROFILE IT MAKES ME WONDER IF I WANT TO REPLY AND HELP THIS PERSON. THEIR ARE OTHER RR FORUMS THAT REQUIRE IT, GRR SHOULD TO . [?][?][?][?][?]

i am in zone 5a i live in illionois

I note an apparent desire not to let out any information about the original poster; This to me, raises a stink! Unless the poster is much more forthcoming I would tend to disregard him/her. I suspect it is another who has been kicked off other forums for non pertinent, or improper usage.

Come on guys, give the guy a chance before you jump on him.

I’m not seeing a picture of the layout…

How much sun or shade does the area get? Think in terms of how many hours is it full sun? Also, what types of plants are you interested in? Some prefer scale plants. Are flowers allowed? Low or high growth?

Lots to think about!

Ok, so we know you’re in Zone 5 with a mostly shady area. You have lots of choices, depending on the look you’re after. Some choices are:

Hosta
dwarf Alberta spruce
a host of springtime flower bulbs (mini tulips, etc)
vinca minor
snow-on-the-mountain
lily of the valley (not exactly scale, use as a background plant)
violets
lady’s mantle
and on and on

For ideas and a list of miniature plants, there are a number of web sites you can visit, including

Weeds?

They grow excellent just about anywhere you let them. They’re especially fast growing in areas where the ground is taken care of, like, say the garden. (-;
