I have tried numerous times to post a photo such that it shows in the thread (as opposed to just posting a link). I looked at the FAQ section, but what I tried did not work. I’m sure it’s something relatively simple I’m not doing, but I sure cannot figure it out. (BTW, I do have photos on Flickr that I can link to).
Any help would be appreciated.

Open a word program, office works or word pad…
Go to Flickr, when you pass your cursor over the photo, it should show you the url, I think it is under the photo or to the side, highlight the url, copy it to the word program, add you text to word, then click on the word icon at the top of the thread box, you know the rest.
Flickr is odd. The way they try to prevent you from linking right to the photo makes it hard to post photos here. I set up a photobucket account for this site - much easier.
Apparently I do not know the rest, as I just tried it and only the text copied, not the link.
Curses, foiled again.
Maybe I’ll try Photobucket. Od course, first I’ll have to set up an account.

With photobucket, when you pass the cursor over the photo, a menu appears directly under the photo…go to the one that says img. and right click, it will flash and say “copied”
Go to your word program, use the paste function to paste the image info, it will look like a link to a site…
Add your text.
Then open a separate browser window, go to trains.com and the thread you want to post in, hit the reply button, (or start a new thread) and when the box opens, you will see an icon bar across the top…go to your word program, copy the "link and text you have there, (highlight then right click and copy)
Go back to trains, click on the far right word icon, it a w in a little box.
A new box will pop up, hit control and then v on your keyboard, your text and photo link will show up, click the insert prompt and your done.
The method that I have found that works (and I just used it in the 765 thread) is to go to Your Photostream page on Flickr, scroll down to the picture you want to display, right-click on that picture, select Properties in the resulting list (should be at the bottom), copy the Address (URL) in the resulting Properties box, and paste that into your post with {img} in front of it and {/img} behind it, except use the square brackets instead of the curly ones.
This is what I got when I tried your way after I copied the properties from the image in Flickr after I had already clicked on the selected image to make it larger.
And this is what I got when I got the properties from the photo in my Photostream.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to make it larger…

I think Trains.com imposes a limit on the image size.
Could be; however, when Chris (copcarss) posts photos, they are much larger, and have a little menu bar beneath them that a viewer can ‘click’ on to make the image even larger.

Being the geek that I am, I have my own webspace (actually not that expensive) so I upload my pictures to that and link to said space.
There’s no limit to the image size that way (the forum doesn’t have to store the actual image - it pulls it from the website you specify). The forum software will reduce the size of the displayed image and give the viewer the opportunity to view it full size.
Since most images we use on the web are JPEGs, one thing to look for in the URL you want to link to is for it to end with .JPG. Your URL should look something like this: http://www.website.com/directory/yourimage.jpg.
The exact content will depend on the website and may include several levels of directories.
Again, being the geek I am, I put in my own IMG tags - using the square brackets around “IMG” (no quotes) at the beginning of the image URL and “/IMG” (no quotes) at the end of the URL.
Some photo sites actually offer you the URL to link to the image - look for that, too.
I suspect that’s the thumbnail. See what you get if you right click on the full sized image. You can just paste it into your word processing program or Notepad for “research” purposes.
Or open up a new browser window and paste it into the address bar. That will show you exactly what will show up on the forum, size-wise.

240X159 pixels is the size your photo is…before you post it to Flickr or Photobucket, use photoshop or what ever software your computer has to enlarge it.
Or…
You can change the size your computer stores photos at, I just have to remember how…its part of the down load software, I think under advance in your toolbar.
That way, when you download from your computer to Flicker or Photobucket, the inage will look the same on those sites, but be large when posted to a internet forum or other site, as it uploads at the original size…Geeks like Tree can figure it out I am sure.[;)]
